Situated in the south eastern part, the nine-square-kilometer Barren, ring-shaped coral atoll Clipperton Island shares border with Pacific Ocean in the east, Costa Rica in the west and Mexico in the southwest. Clipperton Island is the only atoll in the East Pacific, serving as home for numerous land crabs and seabirds. The best means to discover the island is by walking, you’ll find the island has two different types of surfaces, one is the soft sands and other is made out of hard coral fragments cemented together and covered with loose coral pieces. So be careful while walking so you don't get an ankle sprain stepping on the wrong pieces.
While approaching the atoll, the only really elevated place on the island heights about 29 meters and it is a volcanic outcrop. The ruins of an old lighthouse are quite noticeable. Presence of several coconut palm trees grooving on the island brings an added beauty touch by the nature mother. Undoubtedly, the old machinery, remains of US Navy buildings from WWII and the munitions from this time found around the island will amaze the visitors, also check out the shack remaining of a 1996 NASA radar site which exploded soon after launch due to rocket malfunctioning.
The main tourist activity of interest is in fishing, which they do it outside Clipperton Island. The crowed outside the Clipperton Island is more than the island itself because for their fishing interest and presence of various marine habitat. Catch out the rare Clipperton Angelfish. Wildlife-watching lovers can get little disappointed by the fact that there are not many species left on this island, but presence of thousands of bright orange crabs and some species of birds including the migratory birds can at least compensate. Outdoorsy travelers can get engaged by taking part in Snorkeling and diving. Swimming around the dolphins will be a rewarding lifetime experience.
